Welcome to Clare Community Games
Community Games is an independent voluntary organisation, operating in local communities throughout Ireland. The organisation aims to provide opportunities for children and young people aged 6-16 years to develop active healthy lives in a safe environment through experiencing a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. Community spirit and co-operation is fostered and encouraged. The organisation believes that every young person should have the opportunity to take part in sports and art in their local community and grow up understanding how good it makes you feel when you are active and healthy.
There is a huge range of both sporting and non-sporting activities, both for individuals and teams. Children first participate and compete at local area level and then progress through County competitions, sometimes also Munster competitions and ultimately they have the chance to participate in the two annual National Festivals (in May and August each year).
The Community Games movement was founded in 1967 and began in County Clare in 1971. The broad aim of the movement is to encourage and introduce a love of sport and culture in our young people. The Community Games motto "Mens sana in corpore sano" sums this up nicely: "A healthy mind in a healthy body".
Community Games would not be thriving in County Clare if it weren't for our sponsors, St. Francis Credit Union, who have offices in Ennis, Shannon, Lissycasey, Clarecastle, Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Tulla, Kildysart and Kilmihil. We would encourage visitors to the site to explore the range of services which are available in their local St. Francis Credit Union.
