Chess 2018
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess competitions for U13 & U16 took place on Sunday 11th in St Flannan's College Ennis, coordinated by John Cassidy. In the U13 Competition 9 teams took part with 4 teams in the u16 competition. The standard was high with some very good games in both competitions.
In the U113 competition Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/ Kilfenora/Kilshanny (Red) were level with Cratloe at finish of game but in process of elimination Cratloe lost out. In the quarter finals Ennis St Johns beat Doora/Barefield, Tulla beat Quin/Clooney, Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry beat Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/Kilfenora/Kilshanny (White) and Ballynacally/Lissycasey beat Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/Kilfenora/Kilshanny (Red). In the semi finals Tulla beat Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Ennis St Johns beat Ballynacally/Lissycasey.
In the U16 competition, Doora/Barefield beat Cratloe in the semi finals while Ennis St Johns proved too strong for the Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry team. Ennis St Johns pipped near neighbours Doora/Barefield for the Gold and the opportunity to represent Clare in the Munster Finals. Cratloe beat Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry for the Bronze medals.

Both Ennis St John's teams now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster Finals on 21st April in U.L.
