Munster Finals 2014

EIGHT MUNSTER TITLES FOR CLARE

Eight Munster titles for munstergroup Insurance Clare Community Games at the HSE Community Games Munster finals in UL on Sat 5th July. The games were held in glorious sunshine. Clare had the highest number of teams participating in the finals. All qualifiers now go forward to represent Clare in National Finals in August. All teams did extremely well with some just missing out by the narrowest of margins. Roisin Cahill retained her title in Judo. Roisin won a silver medal in the national finals last year & will be hoping to do as good if not better this time around. The U12 Chess team also retained their title since last year as did the Ennis St Johns U14 Draughts team. Doora/Barefield Mini Rugby team were winners & were presented with their medals by world renouned international referee George Clancy. He also presented Osgar O’Gorman with one of his international referees jersey. The Killanena/Flagmount camogie team overcame Burgess of Tipperary 9 – 6 in semi final. They met the Cork champions Carragline in the final. They were an evenly matched pairing with Clare leading 1 – 7 to 2 -2 at half time. The Killanena/Flagmount girls put on a great display to finish in first place on a score of 3 – 10 to 2 – 4. This was the first time that Killanena/Flagmount camogie ever qualified for the Munster finals. Killaloe girls Badminton team beat Moyvane/Knockanure of Kerry 2 – 1. Quin/Clooney U16 Skittles team also put in a great performance to beat Firies of Kerry to win their final. The Boys from Derg came tops in the U15 Boys One-Wall Handball event and Clare also had seven teams & two individuals in who finished in 2nd place.

  • One Wall Handball U15 Boys - Derg: Eoghan Keehan, Sean Doyle, Og Sheedy, Jason McCarthy, Thomas Minogue.
  • Skittles U16 – Quin/Clooney: Barry Loughnane, Darragh Ryan, Conor Coughlan, Aine Nash, Orlaith Nash, Tiarnan Boyce, Cathal Browne.
