2017 Event Calendar

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games calendar for 2016/2017 season is presented below, along with all results from the season. 

Art 2017

Hundreds of children from around the county (armed with pencils, crayons, paint and paper) flocked to CBS School Ennis on Saturday 4th February to take part in the St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Art competition. Great credit is due to Cecilia O'Sullivan and her team for organising yet another successful event and many thanks to the school for providing the premises and all the adult and youth volunteers who helped with supervision of the competition.  Well done to all those who took part. Medals and certs are available for collection by an area representative at the monthly county meetings.

Athletics 2017

What a fantastic day was had at the Clare County Athletic finals on Sunday 11th June in the newly renamed John O'Sullivan Park on a showery, blustery day. Thanks to our sponsors the St. Francis Credit Union and to Raymond O'Mahoney and to Councillor Ann Norton (Mayor of Ennis). The wind and rain didn't dampen the spirit of the competitors or the supporters. Well done to all and a huge thank you to all the officials/volunteers who helped out in any way. We couldn't have done it without you. A very special word of thanks to our celebrities who created wonderful memories. John Burke (the first Clare man to climb Mount Everest) Aoibhin Garrihy (Fair City actress and Dancing with the Stars), Rosie Foley (Ireland Rugby International, swam the length of Lough Derg 38km, and the English Channel), Jason McCarthy (Clare Senior Hurler and Irelands Fittest Family) All we can say is, thanks, thanks and thanks again! #getinthegames.

Badminton 2017

On Saturday 4th March, the St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Badminton competitions for both boys & girls took place in St Anne’s School in Killaloe. Only five teams in total participated but what it lacked in quantity it made up for in the quality of standard. The winners go on to represent Clare in the Munster finals. Many thanks to Fiona O'Mahony and John Daly for co-ordinating the event and thanks also to St. Anne's Community College for the use of the hall. Its great to see new talent and young players coming up.

Boys Indoor Soccer 2017

SIXMILEBRIDGE/KILMURRY TAKE GOLD & SILVER U10

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Boys U10 Indoor Soccer competitions were held on Saturday 8th April in Corofin GAA Hall. Ten teams competed. It was co ordinated by Flan Brennan & his team of assistants. The standard was extremely high with some very close matches with the two Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry teams fighting it out for the honour to represent their county in the Munster finals in July.

Boys Outdoor Soccer 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games boys U12 Soccer competitions were held during the week of 15th-19th May in the newly renamed Ennis Active John O'Sullivan Park at Lees Road. Nine teams took part. The standard was extremely high with some matches going to extra time & penalty shoot out. It was coordinated by Flan Brennan with his team of referees.

In the preliminary round Ballynacally/Lissycasey Black and Cratloe were nil all with at full time but but Ballynacally/Lissycasey black won 4-3 on penalties.

In the quarter finals Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly beat Ballynacally/Lissycasey Maroon 2-0. Doora/Barefield and Killaloe were 1-1 at full time Killaloe won 2-0 on sudden death penalties after extra time. Meelick/Coonagh beat Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry & Derg went down to Ballynacallt/Lissycasey Black 8-0.

In the semi finals Killaloe beat Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly 2-1 while Ballynacally/Lissycasey black beat Meelick/Coonagh 2-1.

Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly pipped Meelick/Coonagh for the Bronze medals on a score of 1-0.

The final was a very close nail biting game with both teams on no score at full time with Killaloe winning by the narrowest of margins after extra time & sudden death penalties score 2-1.

Killaloe now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster finals in U.L. in July.

Camogie 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U14 Camogie competitions were held on Saturday 15th April in Clarecastle GAA grounds. It was coordinated by Ann McMahon of Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly with referees Aine Ni Cormac from Wolftones Shannon & Shane O'Loughlin of Ruan. Derg came out the winners on the day and now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster Finals in U.L. in July.

In the Quarter finals – Crusheen/Ballinruan/Tubber proved much too strong for Clarecastle/Ballyea winning 2 – 1 to 0 – 0, Quin Clooney had a bye, Derg beat Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly 4 – 0 to 0 – 5, Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry were beaten by Doora/Barefield 2 – 3 to 2 – 0.

In the semi finals Crusheen/Ballinruan/Tubber beat Quin/Clooney 1 – 3 to 0 – 0 and Derg beat Doora/Barefield 2 – 3 to 2 – 0

The final between Derg & Crusheen/Ballinruan/Tubber was a very close encounter with the Derg side edgeing ahead in the end coming away with the gold medals on a score of 4 – 2 to 3 – 1. The playoff for the bronze medals was won by Doora/Barefield over near neighbours Quin/Clooney on a score 1 – 3 to 1 – 0.

Chess 2017

The Chess competitions for u13 & u16 took place on Sunday afternoon, 5th March, in St Flannan’s College under the coordination of John Cassidy. There was a notable increase in the number of teams participating. The standard was extremely high with some matches been keenly contested. Ennis St John’s won the gold medal in both competitions. They now go forward to represent Ennis & Clare in the Munster finals.

Clare Community Games All Stars 2017

The St. Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games All Star awards took place on Friday 27th October in Treacy's West County Hotel, Ennis. Congratulations to all those who received well deserved awards on the night.

County Cross Country 2017

There was a great turnout for the St. Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U13 Cross Country and U10 Relay events in Lees Road, Ennis, on Saturday 14th Jan. Many thanks to Margaret McCarthy and to all the other volunteers who helped out on the day.  Full results are listed below and the top 5 boys and girls will form the U13 County team for the National Finals in the National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, on 6th May 2017.

Cycling 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Cycling competitions for boys & girls u12 & u14 were held on Saturday morning, 27th May, in Quin. It was coordinated by Tom & Suzanne McConway. The standard was very high. The winner in each event will now go forward to represent Clare in the National Finals in August in the National Sports Campus.

Draughts 2017

The St. Francis Credit Union Clare Community Draughts Competition took place on Saturday 25th February in St Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla. A total of 19 teams were entered across the three age groups, which is up on previous years. The coordinator commended Lisdoonvarna who were competing for the first time, for sending along five teams. Lisseycasey/Ballynacally returned this year with five teams and reached two finals. It wont be long before they are challenging at Munster and National level.

Duathlon 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Duathlon competition took place in Quin on Monday 5th June. Many thanks to Tom McConway for co-ordinating this event.

Futsal 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Futsal competitions for both girls & boys U13 & U15 were held in Lisdoonvarna Astro Turf on 14th & 15th January under the coordination of Flan Brennan. On Saturday it was the girls competitions. The standard in these competitions were high with some very good matches. The Gold medals in each now go forward to represent Clare in the Mnster Finals in U.L. on Sunday 2nd April.

Girls Gaelic Football 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U12 girls Gaelic Football competitions took place on Sunday 30th April in Clooney GAA pitch. It was coordinatd by Kieran Harvey & Martha Deegan. The standard was high with Doora Barefield coming out as winners and the honour to represent Clare in the Munster Finals in U.L. on 1st July.

Girls Indoor Soccer 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Indoor Soccer competitions for Girls U13 and U10 were held on the weekend of 22/23 April in Corofin GAA Hall co ordinated by Flan Brennan & his many helpers. Many thanks to all those involved and to the excellent referees who helped make this a fantastic Community Games event.

Girls Outdoor Soccer 2017


The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U12 Girls Outdoor Soccer competition took place on Sat 11th Feb in Lees Road, Ennis.

  1. Gold - Doora/Barefield
  2. Silver - Ennis, St. Johns
  3. Bronze - Clarecastle/Ballyea

Gymnastics 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games gymnastics event took place on Sat 11th March in Clare Gymnastics Club (Ennis). See full results below.

Handwriting 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Handwriting competitions were held in St Joseph's Secondary School, Tulla on Sat 18th Feb. A very large number participated in the different age groups. The standard of writing was extremely high giving the judges a very difficult job in deciding the winners. It was co ordinated by Mary Moran with a large crew of helpers. Thanks to all of them. In the U10 & U12 competitions the children participated for the chance to represent Clare in the National Finals. The U14 competition was a County event only. Medals and certs are available for collection by an area representative at the monthly county meetings.

Hurling 2017

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Hurling competitions for U11 boys were held on Bank holiday Monday, 1st May, in Broadford GAA Pitch in glorious sunshine. The pitch was in splendid condition. Eleven teams took part. The Standard was extremely high with some great displays of skill & teamwork. The co ordinator was Pat Loughnane with a team of capable assistants including referees Kevin Walshe & Andrew McMahon. Cratloe were the well deserving winners by the narrowest of margins after a very close final. Cratloe now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster finals in U.L. on 1st July.
