The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games calendar for 2022 is starting to take shape.

Art 2022

The St. Francis Credit Union Art competition took place recently.  The top two from each category were submitted from each area and subsequently judged.  The winners are presented below. Medals will be distributed via Area Secretaries in due course.

Camogie 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U14 Camogie Competition took place on Sat 4th June in Kilmaley. The weather was ideal with glorious sunshine for the matches. It was coordinated by the very capable Ann Mc Mahon and two very efficient referees Aine Ni Chormaic and David Cunningham. Six teams from Kilmaley to Killaloe participated in the competition with some very talented displays on offer with some matches very closely contested. Moylussa (Killaloe/O’Brien’s Bridge) who were first time entrants in camogie came up against Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry in a quarter final with Moylussa winning 2-1 to 1-0.

Chess 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess competitions were held on Sunday 12th June in Treacy’s West County Hotel. It was for children U11, U13 and U16. There was four U11 teams, six U13 teams and five U16 teams.  A total of one hundred and five children participated. It was played on a Round Robin format where every child got to play a number of games which proved very successful. The experience and knowledge they gained from these games was tremendous. It was coordinated by John Cassidy with his very able assistants Niall Whelan, James O’Sullivan, John Byrne, Aoife Breslin and Marie Neville. The first placed in each age group will now go forward Clare in the Munster Finals on Saturday 2nd July in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick.

Choir 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Talent and Choir Competitions were held on Sat 18th June in Quin Hall. It was coordinated by Carol O’Neill with Jacinta Mc Evoy on Registration. While the numbers were down on what was the norm before Covid it had quality in abundance which made the job of the Judges Emer and Melessa very difficult. The first place in each now go forward to represent Clare in the National Finals in Carlow in August. It was thanks to Quin Hall and everyone who helped out on the day that this competition ran off so well.

Dolores O'Loughlin

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games lost a dear friend and a brilliant, talented volunteer on Tuesday 25th January. Dolores O’Loughlin passed to her heavenly reward and will be greatly missed by her husband Kevin and family. Dolores was involved in the setting up of Community Games in Sixmilebridge in 1971. She has worked tirelessly since to promote the games and she served as President of Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry Community Games. Dolores with her beautiful smile was a friend to everyone in Community Games.

Draughts 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U12 Draughts competition was held on Friday 17th August in the Bridge Active Complex in Sixmilebridge. It was coordinated by Kevin Phelan. Only three teams participated so it was run on a round robin format. Tulla proved to be the much stronger side beating both Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Cratloe to win gold and the opportunity to represent Clare in the Munster final on Sat 2nd July. Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry took the Silver beating near neighbours Cratloe.

Handwriting 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Handwriting competition was held recently.  This year, entries from areas were collected and judged and the winners go forward to represent Clare in the National Community Games Finals in Carlow (Fri/Sat/Sun 26-28 August).  All medal winners are shown below.  Medals will be available for collection by area representatives at the next County Meeting on Tues 5th July or at the Athletics Field Day on 16th July.

Mary Lynch - Vice President - RIP

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games were saddened during the week at the news that one of their longest serving volunteers Vice President Mary Lynch, Clarecastle/Ballyea had passed away after a long illness. Mary was a very dedicated volunteer with Community Games she encouraged every child at area and county to try every event. Mary served as Assistant Secretary 1983 – 1989. Assistant Treasurer 1990 and 1991. Mary was Munster Delegate from 1983 to 2013. During those thirty years she brought back very detailed reports on all happenings on meetings and events in Munster. Mary was a Clare Manger and Official at National Finals in Mosney for over thirty years. Mary Being a nurse was a great benefit to the Clare children. ‘Ar dheis De go raibh a h’anam dilis’.

Munster Chess and Draught Finals 2022

Chess

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games will have three teams contesting the Munster finals in Chess on this Saturday 2 nd July in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick. They will compete in U11, U13 & U16 competitions to win the honour to represent Clare and Munster in the National finals in Carlow in August. The opposition in all three finals are Clontead-Kinsale, Cork.

U11 - Newmarket-on-Fergus – Aoibheann Deans, Grainne Guinane, Max Kelly, Katherine Khan, Paidi Macormaic, Colm O’Laoghaire, Jeaic O’Laoghaire.

U13 - Doora/Barefield – Ultan Breslin, Donnacha Byrne, Patrick Carden, Courtney Flynn, Tadhg O’Gairbhith.

U16 - Ennis St John’s – Darragh Crowley, Misha Hudkov, Jack Mc Auliffe, Conall McCarthy, James Rochford, Dylan Rush, Stanislaw Ulbrych.

Draughts

St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games will be represented by just one team in the Munster Draughts finals on Saturday 2 nd July. The final will be held in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick. It will be coordinated by Michael O’Brien from Limerick. Only two counties are participating this year. The Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry team will take on Ballincollig or Cork for the honour to represent Munster in National finals in Carlow in August. The opposition in Draughts is Ballincollig of Cork.

U12 - SIxmilebridge/Kilmurry - Ronan Gavin, Padraig Chaplin, Jack Willis, Hassan Abbas, Corie Mc Gowan, Aoibheann Chaplin, Holly Loughnane.

Quiz 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U14 Quiz competition was held on Thursday 16th June in Newmarket on Fergus Hall. The children were put through their task by quiz master Martin Mc Inerney. We are very grateful to Ger and Newmarket on Fergus hall for the beautiful venue and thank everyone who helped on the night. The winners Inch/Kilamley/Connolly now go forward to represent Clare in the National Finals later in the year.

Talent 2022

U10 Gaelic Football 2022

The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games U10 Gaelic Football competition was held on the Lissycasey GAA Pitch on Sat 11th June. It was run off by Abi Healy, her assistants and her two efficient referees. Eight teams participated. In the quarter finals Doora/Barefield 2 were beaten by Ballynacally/Lissycasey, Cratloe were beaten by Cooraclare/Cree, Doonbeg 1 were beaten by Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly while Doora/Barefield 1 were beaten by Doonbeg 2. In the semi finals Cooraclare/Cree Doonbeg while the local side beat off the challenge from Inch/Kilmaley Connolly. In the play off Inch/Kilmaley/Connolly took the bronze from Doonbeg. The final was an eagerly contested match with the local side Ballynacally/Lissycasey edgeing past Cooraclare/Cree. Ballynacally/Lissycasey now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster Finals in August.
