Shannon took both Chess titles in the Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games competition on Sunday 6th March in Ennis. Good luck to both teams in the Munsters later in March.
Shannon once again took both Chess titles in the Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games competition on Sunday 5th Feb in Ennis. It was co-ordinated by John Cassidy of Ennis. In the U-12 competition, 11 teams took part, whilst 7 competed in the U-16 competition.
The MUNSTERGROUP Clare Community Games Chess competitions for U-12 & U-16 took place on Sunday 3rd Feb in St Flannan’s College, Ennis. The Co-ordinator was John Cassidy of Ennis. In the u-16 competition only three Teams took part. The standard was extremely high with very little deciding the round robin matches. Shannon came out on top narrowly beating Ennis St John’s 3 – 2 in final. They now go on to represent Clare in the Munster finals in Tralee on 30th March. In the u-12 competition eleven teams took part. The standard here was also very high. This also was played in a round robin competition in two groups. Ennis St John’s two teams together with Shannon & Quin/Clooney contested the semi finals. Shannon and Quin/Clooney emerged to the finals with Shannon winning on a score of 3-2. The two Ennis teams played for the bronze medals with Ennis B coming out on top.
The MUNSTERGROUP Insurance Clare Community Games Chess competitions for U-13 & U-16 were held on Sun 8th Mar in StFlannans College, Ennis. Only two teams participated in the U16 competition. Shannon beat Cratloe the newcomers to this event. In the U13 competition nine teams participated.The standard was high with some of the teams very evenly matched.
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess competition takes place in St Flannan's College, Ennis, this Sun 10th Apr commencing at 2pm sharp. Please bring €10 per team. Teams to arrive 15 minutes before hand in order to register.
The Chess competitions for u13 & u16 took place on Sunday afternoon, 5th March, in St Flannan’s College under the coordination of John Cassidy. There was a notable increase in the number of teams participating. The standard was extremely high with some matches been keenly contested. Ennis St John’s won the gold medal in both competitions. They now go forward to represent Ennis & Clare in the Munster finals.
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess competitions for U13 & U16 took place on Sunday 11th in St Flannan's College Ennis, coordinated by John Cassidy. In the U13 Competition 9 teams took part with 4 teams in the u16 competition. The standard was high with some very good games in both competitions.
In the U113 competition Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/ Kilfenora/Kilshanny (Red) were level with Cratloe at finish of game but in process of elimination Cratloe lost out. In the quarter finals Ennis St Johns beat Doora/Barefield, Tulla beat Quin/Clooney, Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry beat Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/Kilfenora/Kilshanny (White) and Ballynacally/Lissycasey beat Lisdoonvarna/Doolin/Kilfenora/Kilshanny (Red). In the semi finals Tulla beat Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry and Ennis St Johns beat Ballynacally/Lissycasey.
In the U16 competition, Doora/Barefield beat Cratloe in the semi finals while Ennis St Johns proved too strong for the Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry team. Ennis St Johns pipped near neighbours Doora/Barefield for the Gold and the opportunity to represent Clare in the Munster Finals. Cratloe beat Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry for the Bronze medals.
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games County Chess competition took place in St Flannan's College, Ennis, on Sunday 3rd March. This popular event was once again ably coordinated by John Cassidy. Congratulations to the Ennis St John's U13 and U16 teams who won and will now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster Finals in Tralee.
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess Competitions were held on Sunday 1st March in Treacy’s West County Hotel. It was coordinated by John Cassidy. The winners in each category will now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster Finals in U.L. in April.
The St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games Chess competitions were held on Sunday 12th June in Treacy’s West County Hotel. It was for children U11, U13 and U16. There was four U11 teams, six U13 teams and five U16 teams. A total of one hundred and five children participated. It was played on a Round Robin format where every child got to play a number of games which proved very successful. The experience and knowledge they gained from these games was tremendous. It was coordinated by John Cassidy with his very able assistants Niall Whelan, James O’Sullivan, John Byrne, Aoife Breslin and Marie Neville. The first placed in each age group will now go forward Clare in the Munster Finals on Saturday 2nd July in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick.
Shannon once again dominated the Golden Vale Milk Clare Community Games chess finals held in Ennis earlier in the year. Best of luck to them in the National finals in Athlone.
St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games will have three teams contesting the Munster finals in Chess on this Saturday 2 nd July in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick. They will compete in U11, U13 & U16 competitions to win the honour to represent Clare and Munster in the National finals in Carlow in August. The opposition in all three finals are Clontead-Kinsale, Cork.
U11 - Newmarket-on-Fergus – Aoibheann Deans, Grainne Guinane, Max Kelly, Katherine Khan, Paidi Macormaic, Colm O’Laoghaire, Jeaic O’Laoghaire.
U13 - Doora/Barefield – Ultan Breslin, Donnacha Byrne, Patrick Carden, Courtney Flynn, Tadhg O’Gairbhith.
U16 - Ennis St John’s – Darragh Crowley, Misha Hudkov, Jack Mc Auliffe, Conall McCarthy, James Rochford, Dylan Rush, Stanislaw Ulbrych.
St Francis Credit Union Clare Community Games will be represented by just one team in the Munster Draughts finals on Saturday 2 nd July. The final will be held in Ballybrown Community Centre, Clarina, Co Limerick. It will be coordinated by Michael O’Brien from Limerick. Only two counties are participating this year. The Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry team will take on Ballincollig or Cork for the honour to represent Munster in National finals in Carlow in August. The opposition in Draughts is Ballincollig of Cork.

Congratulations to the Under 12 Chess team from Shannon who secured Bronze medals at the National HSE Community Games Finals in Athlone at the weekend (28-30th May). The team won Gold at the Munster Finals in UL in March.
